Crimea claims unprecedented drone raid
On May 2, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that its air defense systems had destroyed 121 drones allegedly belonging to Ukraine in Crimea and several regions of Russia. According to Telegram channels, explosions were heard in several settlements in Crimea.
According to reports, the Russian Defense Ministry claims that 89 drones were destroyed over Crimea and 23 over the Black Sea. Another four drones were allegedly destroyed over Krasnodar Krai, two in Oryol Oblast, and one each in Bryansk, Belgorod, and the Sea of Azov.
The Telegram channel also noted that explosions were heard in Sevastopol, Dzhankoy, and other cities where military facilities are located. A video with the sounds of explosions and photos of fire in the village of Uglove near the Kachi airfield was released, where a fire was reported after the actions of the Russian air defense.
An official holding the position of “governor” of Sevastopol confirmed the information about the explosions, stating that the military is repelling the drone attack. In his opinion, seven drones have already been destroyed in the air over the sea.
At about 3 am, he noted that the Russian fleet, in cooperation with the air defense, is repelling a massive drone attack in the areas of Sevastopol Bay, Kachi, and Balaklava. He also reassured that no objects in the city or the water area were damaged.
In addition, at 4 am, a temporary traffic closure on the Crimean Bridge was recorded, which was restored after 2.5 hours.
