Mike Volz and Alex Wong to Step Down as US Presidential Advisers

Mike Volz, the US President’s National Security Adviser, and his deputy Alex Wong are expected to leave their positions in the near future. The White House has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.

Their departure comes in the wake of an information leak. In March 2025, Volz accidentally added journalist Jeffrey Goldberg from The Atlantic to a closed Signal chat where a potential US military intervention in Yemen was being discussed. Although key officials denied any disclosure of classified information, Goldberg went on to publish details of the discussion after verifying their authenticity.

Sources say that Volz privately acknowledged the leak, prompting internal discussions at the White House about the possibility of his resignation. However, he did not initiate his own dismissal, and President Trump did not demand it. Trump described Volz as “a good man who has learned some lessons.”

Alex Wong: Career Background

Alex Wong previously served as Deputy Special Representative for North Korea during Trump’s first administration. He also held the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, earning Trump’s praise for his role in preparing the summit with Kim Jong Un.
