Kyiv residents protest against illegal construction of an apart-hotel on Tsiolkovsky Street instead of a private house

After a high-profile report about construction in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv, new cases of unauthorized construction have been recorded in the Holosiivskyi district. Residents of one of the streets in this district have expressed concern about constructing a new building on Tsiolkovsky Street, 44. They claim that numerous violations of building regulations characterize the construction site.

An apartment hotel is planned to be built here on an old one-story building site, although the land plot is intended for the private sector. Local residents have been trying to draw the authorities’ attention to the violations associated with this facility for three years.

A criminal case concerning the unauthorized construction was opened, but no further investigation was conducted. Residents point to the lack of communication with the developer, which has been ongoing since the start of work. They have collected materials confirming numerous violations of building regulations.

Activists also emphasize the danger, as the object is in a landslide-prone zone. The authorities admit that there are no technical conditions for construction, but the work does not stop.

Although residents are trying to block access to construction equipment, this is only a temporary solution. They demand immediate response from the control bodies and verification of this and other similar cases within the capital, because inaction can lead to serious consequences for the population’s safety.
