Illegal routes instead of maps: a geography teacher created a scheme to smuggle tax evaders abroad

The State Border Guard Service operatives uncovered a scheme organized by a geography teacher from the Vinnytsia region to illegally transport men of military age abroad. For her services, she demanded 16 thousand dollars from each client.

It was established that the woman engaged in illegal business instead of conducting lessons. Using her knowledge of the route and orientation, she organized the transportation of conscripts across the Ukrainian border, bypassing official checkpoints.

According to the investigation, the woman independently found clients, instructed them on safe border crossings, and coordinated routes. Her services cost $16,600 per person.

Law enforcement officers searched the suspect’s apartment, where they seized a significant amount of money, draft notes with routes, mobile phones, and a car that was used to transport clients.

The woman was charged under Part 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns the illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine.

The organizer’s detention was possible thanks to the coordinated cooperation of operatives of the State Border Guard Service, the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are trying to identify other individuals who may have been involved in this illegal activity. The geography teacher may face criminal liability.
