UNDP Ukraine: reintegration of veterans of the Kharkiv region into civilian life

At the end of May, representatives of the Public Council under the Regional Military Administration of Kharkiv Oblast took part in a strategic session aimed at identifying tasks for supporting veterans. Representatives of the NGO Stop Corruption also participated in the event, which was organized with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine. The session was held as part of the EU4 Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine initiative.

UNDP focuses on supporting Kharkiv communities, so the event was attended by veterans, representatives of veterans’ organizations, and members of the Public Council. Among them were Serhiy Usov, Maryna Polyakova, Ayuna Morozova, Ruslan Prykhodko, Tetyana Sila, and Ihor Shyshko, as well as representatives of the regional administration and local councils.

During the session, participants, along with experts and representatives from relevant structures, developed a practical plan for the reintegration of veterans into civilian life.

A key element of the plan was clarifying needs and strategic initiatives in the region. After the session, UNDP representatives contacted Serhiy Usov to establish further cooperation.

“We discussed the initiatives that the Public Council has, and they are important not only for the Kharkiv region but also for other regions of Ukraine. We seek to establish close ties with UNDP,” Serhiy Usov commented.

It is worth noting that on May 1, a meeting of the Public Council under the regional military administration was held, where Serhiy Usov was elected deputy chairman.

Additionally, during the third online meeting of the NGO “Stop Corruption” on May 28, Usov presented an initiative to increase community participation in local self-government, which includes holding public hearings and monitoring the actions of local authorities.
