Nutritionist and dietitian: what’s the difference — NUTRI LAB expert explains
Healthy eating is not just a fashion trend but an essential component of our lives. Olga Gurenko from NUTRI LAB shares tips on how to avoid myths in this area. Is it necessary to eat breakfast, and are detoxes beneficial? She considers these issues from all sides.
Currently, the topics of nutrition and detoxification are actively discussed in society, and the term “nutritionist” has gained increasing popularity. However, superficial knowledge often conceals misconceptions, dangerous advice, and stereotypical solutions that can cause harm.
In a conversation with CK Life, Olga Gurenko explained how to properly maintain your health and what important points should be considered in nutrition.
According to the experts, many people confuse nutrition with dietetics. A dietitian is a medical specialist with a diploma who has the authority to diagnose and treat patients’ health. On the other hand, a nutritionist is a consultant who provides recommendations but does not have the right to prescribe treatment.
“People from different professions often become nutritionists – chefs, lawyers, or mothers on maternity leave. This is not a problem, but it is worth understanding that their activities are advisory, not medical,” Gurenko says.
Among the popular myths is the idea of the need for regular detoxification. Many believe that the body needs cleansing through enemas or special drinks. However, the liver performs this function naturally and constantly.
“No natural remedies can replace the work of the liver. Attempts to cleanse can do more harm than good,” she emphasizes.
Another common myth is the notion that one needs breakfast. Olga claims that if a person feels hungry only twice a day, this is the norm. The main thing is to obtain all the necessary nutrients from food. A strict diet can only increase anxiety.
The expert emphasizes that taking care of your health does not mean controlling every meal. You should ignore alarming statements from the Internet. It is better to find a nutrition approach that meets your body’s needs. Food is a source of energy, not an excuse for constant control.
