Scammers who ”sold” management at the state-owned NAAS enterprise for half a million hryvnias were detained in Kyiv

Two men will stand trial for attempting to commit massive-scale fraud. They tried to receive $500,000 for the appointment to the position of head of a state enterprise subordinate to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.

This information was published by the Shevchenko District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv.

According to the investigation, the suspects told an acquaintance about their influence on the leadership of the NAAS and the opportunity to “resolve the issue” of appointing a specific person to the position of director of one of the state enterprises in the Volyn region. The cost of their services was $500,000.

They claimed that the enterprise owned more than 2,000 hectares of land that could be used for commercial purposes and assured that the costs of the “appointment” would quickly pay off.

Both men were detained while transferring part of the funds by Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

They were charged under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted large-scale fraud). The court ruled to keep them in custody with the possibility of posting bail for 3 million hryvnias for each of the defendants.

The investigation is ongoing.

It should also be noted that the operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in the Khmelnytskyi region, together with investigators of the regional police, exposed a group of individuals who were engaged in the sale of amphetamine and cannabis through bookmarks, hand-to-hand and postal items.
