Ghost receipts: Ukrainians receive electricity bills in uninhabited homes

Oleg Popenko, a representative of an organization that assists citizens with utility issues, expressed concern about the problem with electricity bills. According to him, many Ukrainians receive bills that contain unreliable data on electricity consumption.

This situation primarily affects people who lost their homes due to the war. They turn to the National Commission for Energy and Communal Services with complaints about incorrect charges, and some are even ready to defend their rights in court.

According to Popenko, the problems most often concern charges for destroyed housing or uninhabited apartments. People provide meter readings, but they continue to be charged average tariffs, which leads to significant debts.

In 2023, more than 25,000 people complained about unreasonably high bills, and by the beginning of 2024, the number of complaints had already exceeded 1,200.

Ukrainians are faced with a situation where they are charged considerable amounts for electricity despite actually consuming less. Many of them note that the tariffs do not accurately reflect actual consumption, and this is becoming a significant issue for those who want to pay only for what they use.

We remind you that the situation with utilities remains tense, and issues related to inheritance and payments for it are also becoming increasingly relevant for Ukrainians.
