A woman got married so that her husband would leave Ukraine – what punishment awaits them
In Stary Sambir, Lviv region, a woman from the Ivano-Frankivsk region was sentenced for helping a conscript evade conscription by organizing a sham marriage.
The sentence was announced on May 26 in the Stary Sambir District Court of Lviv region.
As stated in the case materials, the accused, who has a second-group disability due to a rare genetic disease, entered into a similar marriage with her husband to ensure his departure abroad.
During the hearing of the case, the woman fully admitted her guilt. The court decided to impose a fine of 51,000 hryvnias for the illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine.
The sentence has not yet taken legal effect, and an appeal is possible within 30 days from the date of its issuance.
