US President on relations with Kim Jong-un: “We will solve everything”

US President Donald Trump, during an Oval Office event dedicated to efforts to resolve global conflicts, answered a question about a possible letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. While Trump did not give a clear answer, he stressed that he has a “good relationship” with the North Korean leader and “works well with him.”

He added that while some are talking about a possible conflict, he believes the situation can be resolved without consequences for the United States.

According to NK News, which monitors events in North Korea, North Korean representatives in New York have repeatedly refused to accept Trump’s letters to Kim.

Trump and Kim held three summits during Trump’s first term (2017-2021) and exchanged several letters that Trump described as “beautiful.” However, diplomatic efforts have stalled due to US demands for North Korea to denuclearize.

During his second term, Trump recognized North Korea as a nuclear state. On June 11, the White House announced that the president was ready to resume communication with Kim but did not confirm whether new letters had been sent.

Since 2019, North Korea has refused to participate in negotiations. It is actively developing its nuclear programs, working closely with Russia, and supporting it in the conflict in Ukraine with military assistance and weapons.

In addition, in January 2025, the Ukrainian military captured two soldiers from North Korea in the Kursk region, who survived and testified to Ukrainian special services. Since June 17, direct rail communication has been restored between Russia and North Korea.
