Bezos and Sanchez’s wedding ceremony brought brands more than $200 million
The Venice wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez was not only a landmark event for celebrities but also a profitable one for the fashion industry.
According to WWD, the event generated approximately $222 million for fashion brands, thanks to extensive media and online coverage.
Dolce & Gabbana’s participation was especially profitable: the dress worn by the bride generated a media equivalent of $14.5 million, surpassing the results of an entire fashion show.
Over the three-day celebration, the city was visited by approximately 200 celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey, and the Kardashian-Jenner family.
Although the celebration was met with discontent among residents, the economic impact of the event was substantial for Venice, with the city’s income reaching € 957 million.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and TV presenter Lauren Sanchez tied the knot on June 27 on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. The event was preceded by protests from residents who said their city was already suffering from over-tourism, rising housing prices, and the deterioration of the Venice Lagoon ecosystem. In addition to the stars, the city’s tourism ministry stated that the wedding could generate up to 68% of the annual tourism revenue in just one weekend.
