Conservation will become “gold”: prices for cucumbers and tomatoes – will they fall

The season of conservation is approaching, but the prices for vegetables, including cucumbers and tomatoes, remain very high.

Maxim Hopka, an expert with the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club (UKAB), explained how the market situation could change.

In June, greenhouse farms entered the market, allowing wholesale prices for cucumbers to remain within a range of 25-35 UAH per kilogram, a level similar to that of last year. However, in retail networks, prices are significantly higher, ranging from 39 to 90 UAH per kilogram, depending on the variety.

For those planning canning, the expert advises waiting until July. At this time, the market will be saturated with cucumbers, and wholesale prices are expected to increase to 30-45 UAH per kilogram. In stores, prices can range from 50 to 70 UAH per kilogram. However, it should be noted that in July, prices for greenhouse vegetables can increase due to a decrease in supply.

Prices for tomatoes

The situation with tomatoes also does not comfort. The average price for red tomatoes in supermarkets decreased by less than 2 hryvnia, to 95.80 UAH per kilogram compared to June.

The price of pink tomatoes rose from 112.32 to 117.33 hryvnia per kilo;
The Slivka variety increased from 106.52 to 111.08 hryvnias per kilogram.
We will remind that earlier it was noted that favorable weather conditions can lead to a decrease in prices for some vegetables in Ukraine. The reasons for increasing prices for products and the prospects for their reduction in the future have also been reported.
