Deception in every payment: Ukrainians are significantly overpaying for communal

Economist Yuri Gavrilechko cited the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) statements, according to which Ukrainians pay only half of the real value of gas and electricity. During the interview, he emphasized that these statements are not factual.

Havrylechko noted that the IMF lacks proper examination in areas such as economics, energy, utilities, or taxation. He believes that the information provided by the Fund is not based on an objective analysis, but is simply a repetition of phrases that lack actual confirmation from the Ukrainian authorities.

The expert also noted that Ukraine did not have an objective need to cooperate with the IMF, since there were no economic grounds for contacting the Fund. He argues that utility tariffs in Ukraine are 5-8 times higher than their real cost. In his opinion, the price reduction at least six times would allow Ukrainian tariffs to be closer to the level of the European Union.

Recall that, according to the IMF’s official information, Ukrainians currently cover about 50% of the market value of energy resources; it is possible to fully transition to market tariffs only after the end of the war.
