Akhmetov: a combination of luxury with support of Ukraine through superflies, planes and ” steel front ” ‘
In Ukraine, discussions are underway about the magnificent yacht of Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, Luminance, which has captured the world’s attention. Despite the war in the country and concerns about financial costs, the construction of this vessel was not halted. The cost of creating it can reach 500 million euros, which is equivalent to over UAH 21 billion.
The yacht, whose length is 145 meters, attracted the attention of not only the specialists of the marine industry, but also ordinary citizens after publication in The Yacht Connoisseur. Discussions about the morality of possessing such a luxurious asset in wartime have unfolded on social media. Users reacted differently: some offered to sell the yacht in favor of the army, while others paid attention to the already provided assistance to the front by Akhmetov, which exceeds $500 million.
To study the situation more deeply, journalists began to explore the fleet of Yacht Akhmetov, in particular, the number of vessels it comprises and how it compares with the Ukrainian military fleet. This issue is particularly pressing in light of the loss of strategic military vessels.
Luminance has become a symbol of the modern luxurious lifestyle of oligarchs. It was built at the German shipyard Lürsen Yachts, where its construction began in 2018. The work on the yacht continued even after the war, and it was completed in 2024.
The key characteristics of the yacht are striking: length, 145 meters; width, 20 meters; draft, approximately 5 meters; volume, 9,861 GT; and range, over 6,000 nautical miles. This vessel is equipped with modern technologies and can accommodate up to 24 guests and 40 crew members.
Although the name Akhmetov is not specified in the registration documents, experts found the links between the yacht and the SCM business group, which gave reason to consider it as its property. At the same time, the yacht’s owner sells his private planes, which cost approximately $180 million. Akhmetov’s press service confirmed the information about the sale.
The steel front, initiated by the businessman, combined the assets of his companies to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, specifically through donations for protective equipment, medical shelters, motor transport, and drones. Akhmetov’s total assistance amount is currently over UAH 11.3 billion.
Despite his criticism for possessing such a luxury during the war, Akhmetov continues to demonstrate his support for Ukraine and the local army, investing considerable money in aid.
