In the Carpathian region, police uncovered a scheme to evade mobilization through fictitious weddings for $10,000
A 62-year-old resident of Dolyna created a scheme that allowed men subject to military service to cross the border “legally” using fictitious marriages. He involved his partner, who has a disability, in this scam.
Law enforcement officers discovered that the organizer had distributed information about his “business” to men of draft age who were seeking ways to avoid mobilization.
The man found out who was trying to escape the draft and offered them to marry a woman from the first disability group.
As a result, the accompanying woman had the right to cross the border without hindrance.
The cost of the “service” of leaving Ukraine, including marriage registration, was $10,000.
Two local men responded to this offer. According to the investigation, one of them had already managed to cross the border in October 2024.
The case was investigated by police officers in Dolyna, in collaboration with migration police operatives from the Ivano-Frankivsk region, under the procedural supervision of the Dolyna prosecutor’s office.
It turned out that the man forced a woman with a disability to enter into fictitious marriages.
The organizer is suspected of committing crimes under Articles 15 Part 2, 332 Part 3 (illegal smuggling of persons across the border), and 149 Part 1 (human trafficking) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
For these offenses, the man faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of up to 9 years. The court has currently determined a preventive measure for the suspect.
“Of course, such actions require responsibility. This is unacceptable, especially in wartime. The person was aware of the risks and must bear responsibility,” said Vitaliy Chornenky, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk branch of the NGO “Stop Corruption”, commenting on this situation.
The name of Ihor Goliney, the deputy of the Lanchyn village council from “Svoboda”, who was sentenced in a bribery case, also appears in the information space.
