Not 860 hryvnias, but much more: Ukrainian women will receive increased child benefit
The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine is working on a new bill that proposes changes to the system of financial support for parents of newborns. First Deputy Minister Daria Marchak made the announcement.
According to the proposals, it is planned to introduce a one-time payment of 50,000 hryvnias, which the mother will be able to receive immediately after the child’s birth. It is also envisaged that from the first to the twelfth month of the child’s life, monthly assistance will be provided, the amount of which will exceed the current 860 hryvnias.
“At the moment, we have not yet finally determined the amount of monthly payments, but this is a significant increase, which may reach several thousand hryvnias. This is very important for women who are on maternity leave and are completely dependent on their partner’s income. The introduction of such assistance will significantly increase their financial independence,” Marchak noted.
The draft law has already been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration, and if approved, the document will be sent to the Verkhovna Rada.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized that, according to the plans, the new support system is expected to take effect on January 1, 2026. Negotiations are currently underway with the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the budget for next year includes adequate funding.
We will remind that previously, benefits were announced for specific categories of the population, and topics related to additional payments for pensioners and the increase in the credit burden on Ukrainians were also discussed.
