The Verkhovna Rada declared a vacation until the end of August after the adoption of the law on NABU and SAPO

The deputies left the session hall for almost a month until the end of August, immediately after the adoption of bill No. 12414, which reduces the independence of anti-corruption structures – NABU and SAPO.

The People’s Deputy announced this information from “Holos” Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

He noted that despite public promises to correct the new law within two weeks, the parliament took a break for four weeks, until the second half of August.

“After the destruction of anti-corruption legislation, the Rada took a break for 4 weeks, until mid-August. So, even theoretically, nothing will happen. And then everyone will just pretend that this topic is no longer so important. As always,” Zheleznyak emphasized in his Telegram.

He also jokingly added that all that remains is to create another working group or council of “anti-corruptionists” under the Office of the President.

As a reminder, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 12414, which, according to public organizations and experts, effectively nullifies the autonomy of the NABU and the SAPO. The same evening, the document was signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This decision caused mass protests. In Kyiv, Lviv, Dnipro, Odessa, and other cities, thousands of people took to the streets, demanding a veto on the law. Citizens called for the return of political control over anti-corruption agencies.

The business community also called on the authorities to avoid political pressure on the NABU and the SAPO. The amendments to the legislation adopted by the parliament have drawn significant criticism from the Union of Ukrainian Businessmen due to the threats to the anti-corruption system.
