First details of Amazon’s God of War series revealed
Amazon, together with Sony, announced the creation of a series based on the popular game God of War. Ronald D. Moore, who previously worked on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is responsible for the script and production. Information about the project appeared on the IGN portal.
The adaptation is currently in the initial stages of development, but the structure of the planned 10 episodes has already been determined. The plot of the series will be based on the 2018 renovation, where the hero Kratos sets off on a journey through Scandinavia with his son Atreus. The main themes are family dramas, secrets of the past, and internal changes in the characters. The creators strive to preserve the spirit of the original game, while also planning to delve deeper into the personal experiences of the characters.
Moore admitted that he did not have the opportunity to play the game in full due to the complexity of the controls, but was able to get acquainted with the plot through cutscenes, which made a great impression on him.
Moore’s previous works have already touched on the themes of traumatized families and complex relationships, so he considers them an excellent source for the development of drama, because such conflicts provide an opportunity to reveal the characters more deeply.
Corey Barlog, the creative director of God of War, also joined the show. The scripting stage is currently underway, and filming will not begin before 2026. It is known that the series is planned for at least two seasons.
In addition, the Santa Monica studio is actively working on two new games: one, a new part of God of War, probably in a Greek setting with elements of metroidvania, and a completely new original project. The release of the latest part of God of War may also take place in 2026, as this may coincide with the launch of the series.
