India commented on Trump's statements: the US and the EU are conducting trade with Russia themselves

India has confirmed its intention to continue importing energy from Russia, stating the hypocrisy of the West in connection with their trade with Moscow.

This was reported from the comments of the spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs of India, Randhir Jaiswal.

Responding to criticism from Donald Trump regarding the purchase of Russian energy, the official representative of New Delhi noted that the countries of the Western world are also actively doing business with Russia, despite their declarations.

India justified its energy policy.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India emphasized that the import of Russian oil is a necessary step to ensure stable prices for energy resources for the population. Jaiswal noted that after the war in Ukraine, traditional oil suppliers redirected their supplies to Europe. At the same time, the United States called on India to cooperate with Russia to stabilize the global market.

“Criticism of India is not fair. As a large economy, we must act in the interests of our country and ensure our economic security,” Jaiswal said.

The diplomat also stressed that the countries criticizing India continue to have active trade relations with Moscow, but for them, these relations are not critically essential.

The West continues to trade with Russia despite sanctions.

Jaiswal stressed that European countries not only buy oil from Russia, but also import other goods, including fertilizers, mining and chemical products, steel, iron, machinery, and transport equipment. Also, according to him, the United States continues to import uranium hexafluoride for nuclear power, palladium for electric cars, and other chemicals.

In 2024, the volume of trade between the EU and Russia reached 67.5 billion euros. In 2023, the volume of trade in services amounted to 17.2 billion euros, which is many times higher than the numerical indicators of trade relations between India and Russia, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

It should also be noted that Trump’s advisor, Stephen Miller, also made a statement that India, by purchasing cheap Russian oil, is contributing to the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine.
