Case of former Lithuanian army commander on fraud charges: details

Valdemaras Rupšis, the former commander of the Lithuanian army, has been charged in a criminal case involving fraud. The case has been sent to the Vilnius District Court, where the hearings will begin on September 22.

According to the local prosecutor’s office, the criminal case was submitted to the court in May. Rupšis, who previously headed the Lithuanian armed forces, is accused of abuse of power, forgery of official documents, and fraudulent acts. The case also includes a former military doctor who allegedly assisted in the commission of the crime.

According to the investigation, Rupšis, while serving as commander of the army, received dental implants worth about 4,000 euros, the cost of which was covered by the military budget. He claims that he injured his teeth while performing his duties in 2022, and the treatment was approved as official at the expense of national defense.

This case attracted public attention due to the high status of the accused and possible ethical violations in the management of military structures.
