From the natural sounds of the Cherkasy forest to anime aesthetics: the release of the KEMP 2.0 compilation opens a new era in music

The music platform “On Its Basis” is an independent initiative that supports Ukrainian artists, providing them with opportunities to develop and create a new music scene. KEMP is not only a musical event, but also a chance to go beyond the usual, collaborating with mentors and implementing creative projects.

At the end of May, a bright musical event took place – the platform “On Its Basis” organized a five-day KEMP 2.0. During this event, participants not only created musical compositions but also exchanged ideas in a creative atmosphere, listened to lectures, and performed various creative tasks. Every day, each team performed tasks on writing a track under the guidance of experienced mentors: KLER, Sasha Musevich, Kateryna Pavlenko, Anton Shitel, and Kateryna Rogova. The conceptual mentor of the camp was Anton Kukri, a producer who has collaborated with renowned artists such as Max Barskih and Dorofeeva.

“I want to remember the day I received the offer to come here, and celebrate this date every year with a small cake. It was the moment when I realized how important it was for me,” Kateryna Pavlenko shared about her participation in CAMP 2.0.

The result of productive work was a collection of 19 tracks, which was released on August 22 on all known streaming platforms. The album was created at the campsite in the Cherkasy region, with the participation of 15 artists – songwriters, producers, and musicians, who worked on the tracks in different teams every day. Each composition has an atmosphere in which everyday life disappears, and creativity comes to the fore. The collection encompasses a diverse range of genres, allowing every listener to find a composition that suits their taste.

Alice Change, CRYBYE, Kateryna Rohova, Van Su — “Caramel Love”

This experimental track combines EDM, Indian “konnakol” rhythms, and anime aesthetics. Creating the track during the second day of the camp inspired the team to launch a new genre – “kawaii bass”.

“This song appeared during the camp, and then I had no idea that I could write light and cheerful songs. This experiment completely changed my approach to creativity,” said Alice Change.

Berliner Döner, CRYBYE, Ksenia Kostina, Sheetel — “Napokaz”

This song is dedicated to the theme of self-acceptance. The author of the lyrics, Berliner Döner, describes it as an opportunity to face the truth and leave weakness behind.

yosyaa, MYTRO, Rena Dakhno, Sheetel — “O što služeny budinky”

A lyrical composition that addresses a loved one, which evokes a sense of security and is a real “home”.

“A home is not always a building. It can be a person who is your real home and knows “what houses are talking about,” admits Yosyaa.

Slukhay Sashu, Imager, Ksenia Kostina, Sasha Musevich – “Cherkasskyi lis”

This song conveys the meditative atmosphere of the camp, evoking a connection with nature and inner peace.

“Nature teaches you to trust life,” notes Slukhay Sashu.

Say something bad, David Riabin, Oleksii Rapp, Sheetel – “Naked”

The composition, created on the final day of the camp, impresses with its energy, punk mood, spontaneity, and drive. Not only musicians, but also organizers, designers, and managers took part in the recording.

“We are writing a track for Artur from the band “Skazy sos pogane”. It will be an aggressive style, we will just sing “La-La-La-La!” instead of a chorus,” – said Anton Shitel.

“On its basis” is not just a project, but a community that supports, promotes, and creates new Ukrainian music, giving it opportunities for growth and development.
