NASA has discovered a way to capture aliens in space
Scientists at NASA and the University of Pennsylvania have developed a new strategy for detecting extraterrestrial intelligence, which is based on observations of signals emanating from Earth. Instead of randomly scanning space, the researchers suggest first focusing on analyzing our own “signals” and their “sources”.
The research team studied data from the Deep Space Network for two decades. It concluded that during periods when the Earth is aligned with other planets, for example, with Mars, our radio signals sent to space probes partially “slip” into open space. The probability that alien civilizations will record them reaches 77%. In other cases, the chances drop to 12%, and at times when the planets are not aligned, they practically disappear.
Researcher Joseph Lazio of NASA JPL emphasizes that this resembles “cosmic windows of opportunity”. If other civilizations use similar technology, they could accidentally “shine” into space during their missions.
Scientists emphasize the importance of focusing the search on star systems whose orbits are turned “edge” to Earth and are located at a distance of about 23 light-years. These are places where the latest technology is most likely to be able to detect signals if other civilizations act similarly to us.
Astronomer Jason Wright notes that such identification of signals can serve as a “roadmap” for space exploration. This, in turn, indicates the possibility that alien civilizations are already catching our signals, and we are just waiting for them to react to them.
