Ukrainian Armed Forces strike Russian refinery: large explosions and fires at key facilities
On the night of August 30, 2025, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out strikes on two key oil refineries on the territory of Russia – “Krasnodarsky” in the Krasnodar Territory and “Syzransky” in the Samara Region. This operation is designed to reduce the combat capabilities of Russian troops and complicate the supply of fuel to the occupiers.
According to the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, numerous explosions and a fire occurred at the Krasnodarsky Refinery, which produces about 3 million tons of light petroleum products annually. According to the Russian operational staff, the area of the fire was approximately 300 square meters. There were no casualties, but the technological equipment was damaged, and the plant employees were evacuated.
The Syzransky refinery, which had a capacity of 8.5 million tons of oil per year by August 2025, was also hit for the second time, causing a fire on the plant’s territory.
According to information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as local and regional sources, both plants suffered significant damage. This operation will significantly impact Russia’s ability to supply its frontline troops with fuel, thereby considerably reducing their offensive capabilities.
Background
The Krasnodarsky refinery annually supplies up to 3 million tons of light oil products, including gasoline and diesel. The Syzransky refinery has a processing capacity of up to 8.5 million tons of oil per year and produces various types of fuel, including gasoline, diesel, aviation kerosene, and fuel oil. Both plants have been attacked by Ukrainian unmanned systems before.
