Washington allows Kyiv to attack distant targets in Russia
The United States is increasing military support for Ukraine, providing weapons capable of hitting targets deep inside Russian territory.
This was announced by the US permanent representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, in an interview with the Fox News channel.
According to him, the United States has directly provided Ukraine with weapons worth about one billion dollars, and NATO allies have spent the same amount in the past month alone to replenish the arsenal of the Ukrainian army.
“We are providing Ukraine with the ability to strike at more distant targets on Russian territory. President Trump is particularly keen to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself literally. Strengthening the strike potential will be useful for both defense and offensive actions,” Whitaker emphasized.
At the same time, he did not disclose details about specific types of weapons or their range. It also remains unclear whether the “Russian rear” means the territory of the Russian Federation or the occupied regions of Ukraine.
In addition, the US representative noted that Ukrainian strikes have destroyed approximately 20% of Russia’s oil refining capacity in recent times. President Volodymyr Zelensky previously emphasized that these attacks are carried out with the help of Ukrainian weapons and without the consent of Washington.
Whitaker also noted that the strategy of the Donald Trump administration differs from the approach of Joe Biden:
American aid to Ukraine is not financed directly from taxpayers’ funds.
Washington is engaged in a dialogue with Moscow.
Kyiv receives resources to strike distant targets.
“We all want this war to end. This is not Donald Trump’s conflict, but he really wants the violence and attacks on Ukrainian cities to stop,” Whitaker noted.
The US intends to transfer more than 3,000 ERAM missiles and other military equipment to Ukraine for a total of $ 825 million.
