Maryana Bezugla’s appeal suspended due to non-payment of fee in General Zubanych’s case
The Kyiv Court of Appeal ordered MP Maryana Bezugla to pay over 6 thousand hryvnias in court fees, which is a condition for considering her appeal.
The court dismissed the complaint of the lawyer representing Bezugla due to failure to comply with the requirement to pay the court fee. This became known from the court ruling.
The plaintiff in the case is Brigadier General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vasyl Zubanych, who demands a refutation of some of Maryana Bezugla’s publications on Facebook and compensation for moral damage caused by these publications.
In February 2025, the Pechersk District Court partially satisfied the general’s claim, recognizing some of the MP’s accusations as false, obliging her to withdraw them, and also collecting from her a symbolic amount of moral damage — 1 hryvnia, and compensating for the costs of an examination for 24,081.5 hryvnias.
Bezuglaya’s lawyer filed an appeal, arguing that the deputy is entitled to benefits as a combatant. For this, a veteran’s certificate issued on September 16, 2016, was provided.
However, the court decided that in this case, the benefit is not applicable. The judges explained that exemption from the fee is possible only in cases directly related to the protection of the rights of combatants, and the general’s claim does not fall into this category.
The amount of the court fee for filing an appeal in 2025 is 6,358.8 hryvnias, calculated based on the subsistence minimum for non-disabled persons, which was 3,028 hryvnias as of January 1, 2025.
The court dismissed the appeal, giving the defense five days to eliminate the shortcomings, which include paying the fee or submitting documents confirming the right to the benefit.
If the above requirements are not met, the appeal may be deemed unfiled and returned to the applicant.
On August 21, the Verkhovna Rada considered the issue of temporarily suspending Maryana Bezugla from participating in the meeting, which, in wartime conditions, is actually equivalent to a full session.
