A 20% bread price rise can lead to bankruptcy

Bread, the main product in every Ukrainian family, continues to rise in price.

After a 20% increase in the cost in 2024, in the second half of 2025, Ukrainians predict a new rise in price by another 15-20%. This forecast was made by the head of “Kyivkhliba”, Yuriy Duchenko, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.

Why is bread getting more expensive?

The main reasons for the rise in the price of bread are related to significant costs for manufacturers. According to Duchenko, the cost of bakery products is influenced by:

raising flour prices and other ingredients;
rising energy prices;
Increase in the salary of employees.
Many businesses are barely profitable or already struggling with financial damage.

In addition, Duchenko emphasized that the industry faces several serious problems:

lack of working capital;
dependence on expensive energy resources;
reducing the purchasing power of the population;
Logistics problems.
Among the challenges, one should also identify a significant shadow market, which, according to experts, accounts for 40-50%. Shadow manufacturers avoid taxes, offering their products at 20% lower prices, which creates unequal market conditions.

According to Duchenko, Ukrainians are increasingly choosing simple varieties of bread, while the demand for pastries, wheat, and bakery products is gradually reducing. This suggests that consumers are adapting to challenging economic conditions and have a desire to save.

Earlier, it was reported that essential products could rise more, which could significantly hit the wallets of Ukrainians. The expected reduction in meat prices and other products that consumers rely on daily has also been reported.
