Defenders risk losing all privileges: who will be left with nothing?

In Ukraine, soldiers who participated in measures to defend the country from Russian aggression are granted the status of a combatant. This status offers several benefits, including social benefits, housing benefits, and enhanced medical care.

However, there are cases when this status can be revoked. According to Resolution No. 203 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the procedure for revoking the status is regulated by explicit norms.

Decisions on revocation are made by special commissions in state bodies. In the event of controversial situations, the interdepartmental commission under the Ministry of Veterans Affairs has the final say.

The main reasons for which the status of a combatant can be revoked include:

Committing serious crimes. If a service member commits a deliberate, serious, or grave crime while performing his official duties, this may lead to the loss of his status.

Providing false information. In the event of giving false data regarding participation in hostilities, the status may be revoked.

Voluntary refusal. A service member may personally submit an application requesting the renunciation of the status.

Cancellation of the status may require either a law that has entered into force, or supporting documentation from the military unit or relevant state bodies. The decision is made within one month from the moment all necessary documents are received. The soldier gets a written notification of the reasons for the cancellation of the status and the procedure for appealing this decision. Loss of status means that the certificate of a participant in hostilities is declared invalid, and its owner is deprived of all benefits provided by this status.

We also recall that service members will receive free apartments, and not in a queue. Earlier, it was reported that service members may receive payments during treatment, as well as the possibility of receiving additional payments totaling more than 100,000 hryvnias under certain conditions.
