Napkin, detergent and chemicals: how to quickly remove the spots from the coffee from the carpet

Coffee spots on the carpet are a real problem that many people face. However, it can be even more challenging to remove from your favorite drink if you don’t know the proper methods. Coffee contains tannins that quickly penetrate the fibers, and the addition of milk or cream complicates the removal of stains due to the presence of fats and proteins. Ordinary water in this case will not suffice; you need to use specialized cleaning methods, as experts recommend.

The first and most crucial step is speed. The sooner you react, the greater the likelihood of eliminating the stain. The liquid should be wetted with a cloth or microfiber, but it is not necessary to rub, as it can only extend the stain. If you should dry, gently moisten it with water and repeat the soaking procedure. If there is a strong spill, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a moist cleaning function.

As for the cleaning method, there are two approaches. The first is a homemade solution made of two glasses of warm water and two teaspoons of dishwasher detergent. The mixture is applied with a sponge or brush from the edges to the center of the spot, and then the area is wet with a cloth. The second option is to use specialized carpets. Before applying them, it is essential to test in an inconspicuous area to avoid potential damage.

Oxygen bleach (not recommended for woolen carpets) or hydrogen peroxide is used on a light pile to remove outdated spots. The solution should be applied, left for 30 minutes, and then gently wiped with a dry cloth. If necessary, repeat the procedure.

The owners of carpets with long pile will probably have to clean them several times, as the liquid penetrates the depth of the fibers. After treatment, be sure to wash away the residue with clean water, dry the area, and vacuum to restore the pile.
