Ukraine and Germany agree to strengthen cooperation after appointment of new ambassador
A meeting was held in Kyiv between Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yevhen Perebynys and the new German Ambassador to Ukraine, Heiko Toms.
On September 17, during an official meeting, Yevhen Perebynys received copies of his credentials from Heiko Toms, who had only recently begun his diplomatic mission in Ukraine. Perebynys welcomed the new Ambassador and stressed the importance of political dialogue between Ukraine and Germany. He also noted Germany’s key role in supporting Ukraine, especially in the defense sector, in its fight against Russian aggression.
During the conversation, the parties discussed cooperation on European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The critical needs of the Ukrainian military and the consequences of Russia’s constant missile and drone attacks were also discussed. The meeting participants emphasized the need to increase international pressure on the aggressor to ensure a peace based on justice.
Heiko Toms expressed his respect for the Ukrainian people and their resilience, assuring that Germany will continue to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Ambassador also emphasized the readiness to provide military, economic, and humanitarian assistance.
It is important to note that Germany recently extradited to Ukraine a former traffic police inspector from the Cherkasy region, who is suspected of illegally registering luxury cars.
