New penalties are being prepared for drivers: significant changes to traffic rules will soon come into effect

Significant changes are planned in traffic regulations in Ukraine.

To increase responsibility for violations, the police have announced new fines and improved regulations for all road users.

In particular, repeated violations of traffic regulations may lead not only to increased fines but also to the withdrawal of driving privileges. For drivers who systematically ignore the rules, a special control procedure is planned to be introduced.

One of the key changes will be the mandatory use of winter or all-season tires during specific periods. A simple lack of appropriate rubber is fraught with a fine of up to 8,500 hryvnias, and a repeated violation may lead to the loss of a driver’s license.

In addition, explicit norms will be established for electric scooter users, who must comply with new rules officially recorded in legislation.

The speed limit will be reduced from 20 to 10 km/h, meaning that even minor speeding violations will incur a fine.

Pedestrians will be required to wear reflective elements at night, and administrative liability may be applied for violation of this rule.

A system of penalty points for violations is planned to record the behavior of drivers. Citizens will be allowed to register violations via mobile applications and other technical means.

Drifting on the roads can result in a fine of up to 17 thousand hryvnias, and such actions also carry the threat of deprivation of rights.

Fines for using excessively loud vehicles can reach 34 thousand hryvnias, which includes penalties for modifications to exhaust systems that create unwanted noise.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will result in a fine of up to 51 thousand hryvnias, as well as the possibility of confiscating the vehicle.

Separately, the introduction of stricter penalties for drivers who get behind the wheel while intoxicated during martial law is being discussed, including confiscation of the car in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The police emphasize that all these innovations are aimed at increasing road safety and the responsibility of road users. The new rules and fines have not yet been approved, but are being actively discussed as part of legislative initiatives.
