Peace agreement or truce: an expert explained how Ukraine can achieve real security

In his reflections, the expert emphasizes that attempts to conclude peace agreements often prove fruitless. He cites examples, in particular, Northern Ireland and Nagorno-Karabakh, stressing that virtually all the concluded truces have not achieved their goal. Regarding the Korean Peninsula, he believes the situation is different because South Korea is currently refraining from putting pressure on North Korea due to fears that Kim Jong-un may aggravate the problem, particularly through participation in the conflict in Ukraine.

“Eight years of the Minsk agreements and more than twenty attempts to establish peace have not yielded results. This led to a major war – the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Such a strategy does not work. It only leads to a temporary delay of the conflict, leaving our country in a state of uncertainty on the geopolitical map,” notes Ruslan Bortnyk.

The expert emphasizes that achieving real peace requires solving the main problems that cause war. He emphasizes that a comprehensive peace agreement could not only stabilize the situation but also open the way for the return of investments and people, creating conditions for the restoration of business in Ukraine.

“I have repeatedly emphasized that only a comprehensive peace agreement can ensure a stable future for Ukraine. All other options will leave the country in geopolitical uncertainty. Quite a few elites may prosper, but the overall situation will remain difficult,” Ruslan Bortnyk summarizes.
