Defenders of the country – those who guard the sky: details of the events of October 1 in Ukraine

October 1 is the day when the whole country unites to express gratitude to those who defend it. This holiday symbolizes courage, trials, and indomitability, and is dedicated to all who stand in defense of the homeland, whether at the front or in the rear. On this day, we not only pay tribute to the heroes but also understand the actual price of freedom.

Defenders of Ukraine Day is celebrated on October 1 – a state holiday that has a deep patriotic meaning. It is dedicated to all who stood up to defend the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The holiday dates back to 2014, during the Revolution of Dignity and the war in the East. Previously, it was celebrated on October 14, but with the transition to the new church calendar, the date was moved to October 1.

This day is a tribute not only to the service members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine but also to volunteers, medics, rescuers, veterans, and civilians who contribute to the defense of the state. All of them constitute the unbreakable shield of Ukraine.
