An incident occurred in Kyiv that attracted public attention: an SUV driver beat a cyclist after a remark about illegal parking on a bicycle lane. Law enforcement officers detained the culprit, 44-year-old Oleksandr Khilik, who apparently already has a case for embezzling 25 million hryvnias from budget funds.
The Kyiv police received a report from witnesses. On Mezhyhirska Street, a Mercedes driver blocked a bicycle lane, leading to a confrontation with a cyclist. During the argument, the man used physical force, hitting the victim several times in the head. According to police representatives, the efforts of investigators and analysts established the trajectory of the car, which led to the arrest of the suspect. Hilk initially denied his involvement in the aggression, but eyewitness testimony and surveillance camera recordings confirmed his guilt. The incident became a reason to increase control over parking on the capital’s bike paths.
Oleksandr Hilk has already been charged with intentional grievous bodily harm. This article of the Criminal Code carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison.
The same man, we recall, is suspected in another criminal case involving the embezzlement of UAH 25 million allocated for the purchase of uniforms for Kyiv’s territorial defense. According to the investigation, he provided low-quality items that did not meet technical requirements. LLC “Global Hill X Group”, which he manages, was registered in 2022.
The public hopes for severe punishment for Hilk, both for beating the cyclist and for financial crimes. Analysts are conducting their own investigation, gathering additional details about the detainee’s identity.
