A new branch of the Armed Forces will be formed in Ukraine – Cyber Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Ukraine is actively working to create a cyber defense system, within which the Cyber Forces of the Armed Forces may be formed in the near future. These units will be responsible for protecting the state in the digital sphere.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this. In the conditions of a full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, Ukrainian cyber defense units have repeatedly successfully repelled attacks on state institutions, military facilities, and essential infrastructure. It is now planned to separate this direction into a separate structure.
In accordance with the decree of the President of Ukraine dated August 26, 2021, which implements the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, the Ministry of Defense, together with the General Staff, began the formation of the Cyber Forces as a separate branch of the military.
On October 7, 2025, the Verkhovna Rada will consider, in the first reading, Bill No. 12349 “On the Cyber Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, developed by a working group that includes specialists from the General Staff.
The creation of Cyberforces will ensure the formation of a holistic cyber operations management system, enhance protection of critical infrastructure, and strengthen the country’s defense capability in the digital environment.
The Armed Forces emphasize that the adoption of this bill will be an essential step in modernizing the army and in effectively countering Russia’s cyber aggression. The new units will receive modern technologies, analytical centers, and specialists capable of waging war in virtual space.
The creation of Cyberforces is not only a response to modern challenges but also a strategic investment in Ukraine’s secure future.
