The Court of Appeals has approved a new preventive measure for the Mercedes driver suspected of beating a cyclist
In Kyiv, a court changed the preventive measure for the Mercedes driver, who is suspected of beating a cyclist in Podil. Now the man can remain in custody or pay a bail of five million hryvnias until November 25, 2025.
The Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office confirmed this information. The court considered the appeal of the prosecutors of the Podil District Prosecutor’s Office, which led to a change in the preventive measure for the 44-year-old suspect. Previously, he was assigned night house arrest; now, detention with the possibility of posting bail.
In another criminal case, the man is also suspected of leaving the victim without help, and here it was decided to apply a more severe preventive measure – detention without bail until October 31, 2025.
The conflict that led to the incident occurred in the Podilskyi district. The driver of a Mercedes-Benz G-500 and a 40-year-old cyclist argued over parking in a bicycle lane. Responding to the remark, the man hit the cyclist several times in the face, as a result of which the victim lost consciousness and fell.
The driver’s actions are classified as intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm under Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
