Policeman in Kyiv region detained for bribery and drug dealing

A police officer from the Kyiv region was detained on suspicion of collaborating with the drug trade in the amount of 10 thousand US dollars. The police officer is suspected of facilitating the illegal cultivation of cannabis and receiving a bribe.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

A law enforcement officer received an offer from a group involved in the illegal cultivation of cannabis in the Kyiv region to provide cover for their activities. He demanded $10,000 for his services.

The SBI documented the abuse and opened criminal proceedings. The police officer was served with a suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 (obtaining an unlawful benefit), Part 5 of Article 27, and Part 2 of Article 310 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (facilitating the illegal cultivation of cannabis by a group of persons for sale).

The person who gave the bribe is also suspected of providing illegal benefits and illegal sale of narcotic drugs (Part 3 of Article 369, Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). These articles provide for a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment and the confiscation of property.

As part of the investigation, searches were conducted at the suspects’ residences, during which mobile phones and draft recordings were seized. The court issued a preventive measure of 24-hour house arrest for the police officer.

The Prosecutor General’s Office manages the procedural aspects of the case.

We also note that recently, a corruption group was exposed in the Odessa region that helped men avoid mobilization by illegally registering them as “unfit for service”. The participants in this scheme pleaded guilty; the court will consider the case.
