Ukrainians are asked to prepare for blackouts: recommendations for everyone
As a result of the recent large-scale Russian attack, emergency power outage schedules are being introduced in several regions of Ukraine. Despite the difficult situation, Ukrainians can stay connected thanks to the well-established work of mobile operators, as reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation’s press service.
Operators are prepared for these scenarios, with their teams working 24/7 and base stations equipped with backup power sources, such as batteries and generators. This allows you to maintain communication even during extended power outages.
However, the Ministry of Digital Affairs emphasizes the importance of preparing for potential blackouts to make effective use of available energy resources and avoid communication outages.
Ways to prepare for shutdowns:
- Download the interactive map of Points of Invincibility in the “Action” application.
On the main page, you will find a map with the nearest places where you can charge your phone, use the Internet, or make a call. - Check if your ISP supports XPON technology.
This system allows you to provide Internet access for up to 72 hours in the absence of electricity. Information can be found on the joint map of the Ministry of Digital and LUN. If the technology is available, it is recommended to purchase a power bank and connect it to the router and the ONU terminal for stable communication. - In case of loss of mobile signal, use national roaming.
If your operator is temporarily down due to network congestion or damage, you can connect to another operator such as Vodafone, Kyivstar, or Lifecell.
For this, you need:
disable automatic network selection (Android: Settings → Mobile network → Operator; iOS: Settings → Cellular data → Network selection);
manually select an available operator;
If the connection fails, try again or choose another network.
Check if calls or SMS are available.
Experts advise keeping phones charged, having a spare battery, and keeping offline versions of important maps or documents. These simple measures will help you stay connected even during large-scale power outages.
It will be recalled that earlier, it was reported about the night attack, as a result of which the Left Bank of Kyiv was left without electricity, and about the wounded.
In addition, information on massive attacks on energy infrastructure and forecasts of possible power outages in the winter period were published.
