BEB and border guards prevented smuggling worth UAH 17 million

A 61-year-old resident of the Lviv region was suspected of attempting to smuggle a large consignment of goods across the state border. The violation was detected in August during an inspection at the Uhryniv checkpoint.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this.

During the inspection of the Renault car driven by the suspect, border guards drew attention to possible violations of customs regulations. In the cabin and trunk, among boxes of food, undeclared goods were found carefully hidden.

As it turned out, the consignment contained more than 400 mobile phones of famous brands, about 3.5 thousand bottles of perfume and testers, as well as small household appliances.

The total estimated value of the detected goods is approximately 17 million hryvnias. According to the investigation, this consignment was planned for sale in the Lviv region.

The seized goods and the car were seized. The investigation into the circumstances of the case is being conducted by detectives of the Territorial Department of the Bureau of Economic Security of the Lviv Region, and the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office is conducting procedural control.

Law enforcement officers emphasize that the joint work of the 7th Carpathian and 6th Volyn Border Guard Units helped prevent an attempt at large-scale illegal movement of goods across the border.

Recently, the State Bureau of Investigation, in cooperation with the SBU and the Internal Security Department of the State Border Guard Service, discovered a border guard inspector in Transcarpathia who, for a reward, facilitated the illegal transfer of men of draft age across the border, and also smuggled cigarettes to Romania.
