A new head of unmanned air defense systems has been officially appointed in Ukraine

Ukraine has officially appointed Colonel Yuriy Cherevashenko as the new commander of unmanned air defense systems. He previously worked on the creation of mobile brigades and the development of interceptor drones.

President Volodymyr Zelensky approved his candidacy, and Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal signed the corresponding decree. The Office of the President confirmed this information.

Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Cherevashenko will face the essential tasks outlined during a recent meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s Headquarters. This includes expanding the use of unmanned technologies, in particular interceptor drones, and strengthening Ukrainian air defense with modern weapons.

The Office of the President also emphasized that Yuriy Cherevashenko made a significant contribution to the creation of the first mobile rapid response air defense brigades. Currently, he will focus on developing the Air Force’s unmanned component and implementing innovative solutions in air defense.

The charity Kernic Solidarités has donated 280 km of nets to Ukraine to combat Russian drones. The nets, made of horsehair, were previously used to catch monkfish, a fish renowned for its strength, making it effective against drones.
