Social initiative of Ukrzaliznytsia: who will be given 3,000 km of free rail travel

From December 1, residents of the frontline regions will be able to use 3,000 free kilometers for travel across Ukraine. This innovation will be part of the “UZ-3000” program implemented by Ukrzaliznytsia.

The “UZ-3000” program will begin operations on December 1, 2025, to provide free rail transportation for residents of frontline communities. Each program participant will receive 3,000 km, which they can use for travel in first class or a compartment (excluding international flights or premium class).

The head of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia spoke about the details of the new initiative, noting that the program is aimed at supporting Ukrainians, especially older people and children, amid low transportation demand in January and February. According to statistics, about 15 million Ukrainians travel little, mainly due to financial difficulties.

“Kilometers” can be used in the UZ mobile application, where the passenger can choose to pay for the ticket either in cash or with accumulated kilometers. For those without a smartphone, alternative identification will be available through online banking or through public organizations.

The program provides a special emphasis on older people. Ukrzaliznytsia plans to cooperate with volunteer and social organizations to organize group trips to cities such as Lviv, Uzhhorod, or Kamianets-Podilskyi. Social workers will help older people take advantage of these opportunities.

To avoid abuse, you can purchase a ticket only in your own name or for a child. Up to four trips per person are planned (two in each direction). Pertsovsky also noted that the program benefits the company, as it helps fill empty seats in the cars and generates a small but stable income.

Ukrzaliznytsia encourages local communities to use this offer to organize travel, promising to find solutions for the most vulnerable regions in December, when it is essential to give people the opportunity to change the situation and feel supported.

In addition, the “Winter Support” program, which includes financial assistance and fixed tariffs, and the “UZ-3000” initiative, which will offer free travel for 3,000 km in Ukraine, will be launched this winter.
