5 ways to heat your home without air conditioning and a fireplace
When the cold season comes, many of us want to spend most of our time in a warm and cozy home. Experts recommend preparing your home for frost in advance.
Warm up your bed before bed.
One unusual but very effective way is to warm up your bed with a hairdryer or a special heater. It will only take a few minutes, but warm sheets will ensure a comfortable sleep. To keep warm, choose a high-quality down blanket or an electric blanket, and follow safety rules.
Lay a carpet on the floor.
A carpet not only makes the room more comfortable, but also reduces heat loss, which is especially important if the floor is made of stone, concrete, or wood. A dense carpet effectively retains heat and provides comfort when walking barefoot.
Protect windows and doors from drafts.
Drafts are the leading cause of heat loss in the house. An easy solution is to install sealing strips or place rollers under doors and windows. If you don’t have any, you can use a rolled-up towel to seal the gaps and keep out cold air.
Insulate your home
Up to a third of your home’s heat is lost through cracks in walls, windows, and doors. It’s a good idea to scrutinize your home and seal any cracks with silicone or sealant. For additional insulation, you can use foam or polyurethane foam to help trap heat in the walls and floor.
Check your roof
Damage to your roof can cause drafts and chilly conditions. If you find cracks or broken tiles, replace or seal them to keep cold air out and keep your home warm.
