Водіїв загрожує штраф у розмірі 4 тисячі гривень: що потрібно знати

Drivers face a fine of 4,000 hryvnias: what you need to know

Drivers who are used to driving in the left lane should be careful – this may result in a fine.

According to traffic rules, drivers must use the right lane; the left lane is intended only for overtaking or turning. Many drivers in Ukraine neglect this and move to the left, even when the right lane is free. However, this is a violation, because paragraph 11.5 of the Traffic Rules clearly states that driving in the far left lane is allowed only if the right lanes are occupied, or a U-turn or left turn is planned.

In Germany, a similar rule has existed for many years and is called the “20-second principle”. According to this rule, a driver who can drive in the right lane for at least 20 seconds is obliged to return to it. Violation of this rule is punishable by a fine of 80 euros (approximately 4,000 hryvnias) and one penalty point.

The Higher Regional Court in Düsseldorf made this decision back in 1989, and since then, the rule has become generally accepted on highways. The principle of safe traffic also applies in Ukraine: the right lane is for moving traffic, the left lane for maneuvering.

Experts emphasize: “Even on expressways, drivers must drive on the right, and use the left lane only for overtaking.”

Compliance with these rules is not just a formality: it reduces the risk of accidents and prevents traffic jams.

The day before, it was reported that new parking spaces will appear in Ukraine, as well as the ability to pay and receive parking fines through “Diya” – this is already a reality for residents of one city. The new road markings in Ukraine and their significance are also being discussed.
