Teacher enjoys coffee in class: Ukrainian woman asks social media users for their opinions, answers were unexpected

Is it permissible for a teacher to drink coffee during online lessons? Victoria raised this question from Kyiv on the social network Threads.

She asked: “A teacher drinks coffee during an online lesson. What is your reaction?”

Surprisingly, the comments were almost unanimous. Many users admitted that teachers are just like everyone else, and that drinking coffee during a lesson is not something negative. Some noted that in other countries, this is a fairly common practice: there, both teachers and students can safely drink coffee or have a snack when they feel hungry.

One user shared her experience from the USA: “When I arrived, I studied at an English-language school for adults. There was a coffee machine in the classroom with capsules, sugar, and cream – free of charge. The teacher invited everyone to have a treat. Sometimes they brought food with coffee, and no one bothered.”

Another commenter commented: “I would tell the teacher to buy more cookies with the coffee. Seriously, a teacher is also a person and has the right to drink coffee when he needs it.” Another user, citing Sweden, confirmed that her teachers allowed her to drink coffee during classes.

Several commenters emphasized that they allow themselves to drink during classes: “I can drink tea or coffee during online classes. Students can drink too; I even let them chew something. I multitask, so I can’t just sit and stare at the screen. At the same time, I’m busy cutting out cards or planning for the next week.”

Another user noted that she enjoys drinking drinks during classes: “When I was teaching, I let students drink coffee in pairs, because I came with the coffee myself. It doesn’t bother me.”

She also added, “I’ll make some for myself. The teacher needs a break, because there may not be breaks between students.”
