Ukrainians have the opportunity to independently check the quality of mobile Internet: a new law has come into force

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Law No. 4670-IX, which is designed to improve the stability and quality of mobile Internet and communications in the country. This message appeared on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada.

Under the new legislation, mobile Internet speed has become the official standard for assessing telecommunications operators’ performance. Each user will be able to check the Internet quality on a smartphone, and the test results will be automatically sent to the National Commission for the Regulation of Communications (NCEC) for further analysis and to address potential issues.

The law also improves the mechanism of national roaming. This means that networks from different operators will cooperate in emergencies, ensuring communication for users. National roaming will operate even after the end of martial law.

The document stipulates new rules for electronic communications that eliminate gaps that previously complicated the enforcement of licensing conditions. The moratorium on inspections is also being lifted, which will facilitate faster construction of base stations in rural areas and reduce the number of “white spots” without coverage.

However, with the adoption of new quality standards, information has emerged about a possible increase in Internet tariffs. According to reports, providers may raise prices to update equipment and meet new technological requirements. Operators’ costs may increase significantly, and some of those costs will likely be passed on to consumers. Official information about tariff changes has not yet been received.

Mikhail Fedorov, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, noted the importance of this law as a step towards ensuring fast, reliable mobile Internet across all regions of the country.

The law has already entered into force.
