Ukraine has a chance to join the EU in 2027 — the dates are specified in the draft peace plan
The United States, Ukraine, and European states are working on a new peace initiative comprising 20 points. The Washington Post reports this, citing informed sources.
The plan includes three primary documents:
a peace plan
a document on security guarantees
An economic plan for the recovery of Ukraine
Among the key aspects is the creation of a demilitarized zone along the ceasefire line, which will run from the Donetsk region to the Kherson region. In addition, another area will emerge where the introduction of heavy weapons is prohibited.
Disputes also continue regarding the exchange of territories and new demarcation lines. One of the proposed scenarios is the so-called “Korean option, where a demarcation line will be established, but the status of the disputed territories will remain uncertain.
The status of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is also being discussed. According to one option, control over it should not remain with the Russian side, and its management may be transferred to the United States.
Separately, the documents spell out a clear deadline for Ukraine to join the European Union — 2027. The United States is ready to influence Hungary to unblock this process. EU membership will open up new opportunities for trade, attracting investment, and improving the fight against corruption.
The United States is also ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees that could be similar to NATO’s Article 5. Kyiv wants these guarantees enshrined in law.
The document emphasizes that Russia cannot veto Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Additionally, it is planned to expand the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 600 to 800 thousand soldiers, but Kyiv does not intend to introduce formal restrictions on the size of the army.
Among the economic initiatives is $100 billion, which the Donald Trump administration proposes to allocate to the restoration of Ukraine at the expense of frozen Russian assets. This amount may be increased.
Negotiations are also underway with BlackRock and the World Bank to establish a Ukrainian Development Fund to attract $400 billion in investments for the country’s post-war reconstruction.
Sources added that Trump is also interested in similar projects for Russia after the war.
Negotiations are still ongoing, but for the first time, specific political steps and limits for a possible compromise are being fixed.
A more detailed plan for ending the war in Ukraine has also been prepared by the European Union, including comprehensive security guarantees, the return of abducted children, monitoring compliance with the ceasefire, and further integration of Ukraine into the EU and NATO.
