Why do they usually turn off the lights during the day: DTEK’s answer

In Ukraine, the question often arises: why is the electricity supply limited mainly during the day and evening, while at night, consumers can receive electricity without interruption? DTEK explained that this is due to electricity consumption levels and the load on the energy system.

Electricity consumption decreases significantly at night. During the night, when most enterprises and offices are not operating and people are resting, the network load decreases. Thanks to this, most consumers can use electricity without problems at night, reducing the need for outages. Therefore, nighttime is a period when the energy system can function stably.

At the same time, the situation changes dramatically in the morning and evening. These are peak consumption hours, when the population is most active. People turn on household appliances, cook food, and businesses operate, all of which increase the load on the energy network. To avoid accidents and serious technical problems, energy workers must take measures to turn off electricity more frequently. Every kilowatt during these hours is essential, and the operation of the system and the safety of consumers depend on its availability.

DTEK emphasizes that these outages are not random but are carried out according to pre-prepared schedules. They are designed to maintain a balance between electricity production and consumption, preventing overloads. This explains why consumers may notice a stable electricity supply at night, while interruptions are possible during the day and evening.

Consumers need to understand that planned outages are a necessary measure to ensure the stability of the energy system. DTEK recommends charging electronic equipment at night, performing energy-intensive tasks during the day, and using electricity rationally to reduce network load.
