James Cameron officially becomes a billionaire according to Forbes
Famous director James Cameron, the creator of such cult films as “Avatar” and “Terminator, has become a member of the billionaire club according to Forbes magazine.
And his fortune is currently estimated at $ 1.1 billion. It should be noted that Cameron began his film career in the 1980s with the blockbusters “Terminator” and “Aliens”. Since then, his films have grossed more than $ 9 billion worldwide.
However, the director himself is skeptical about the status of a billionaire:
“I would like to be a billionaire, but for this, you need to make certain deals that did not exist. To reach this level, I would not have to spend a penny for 30 years.”
However, it cannot be denied that Cameron has achieved significant financial success through films such as “Terminator” and “Titanic”, and that the “Avatar” franchise has become the primary source of his wealth.
The first Avatar grossed over $350 million, while the second earned $250 million. The new film, Avatar: The Last Airbender, is expected to gross around $2 billion, with Cameron’s personal profit from it at least $200 million.
In addition, Cameron continues to receive significant royalties from the use of his Avatar-related intellectual property, including toys and merchandise, as well as from Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.
Other billionaire directors include George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, and Tyler Perry.
It was also recently reported that Luana Lopez Lara, a former ballerina, has become the world’s youngest billionaire with a net worth of $1.3 billion.
Although Cameron has surpassed Spielberg in earnings, his financial level still falls short of that of other famous directors. Spielberg has $7.1 billion, George Lucas has $5.3 billion, Peter Jackson has $1.7 billion, while Tyler Perry has $1.4 billion. Cameron ranks last among these billionaires with $1.1 billion.
