Electricity tariffs: what changes are expected in payments in 2026
Electricity tariffs remain a pressing issue for most Ukrainian families, as utility costs significantly affect their financial situation.
Experts discussed the possibility of higher electricity prices in 2026. According to economist Oleg Pendzin, an increase in tariffs is possible, but a sharp transition to market prices is unlikely. He notes that although tariffs for the population are likely to increase in 2026, the government will continue to regulate them, maintaining the difference between the market price and the tariff set for the population.
Energy expert Volodymyr Omelchenko clarified that the possibility of adjusting the tariff will depend on government decisions.
“If economic policy allows, an increase may occur, for example, in the spring. If not, the tariffs will remain unchanged,” he explained.
According to the National Bank’s forecasts, the current tariffs for electricity, gas, heating, and hot water will not be revised until the end of 2025. However, the NBU documents indicate that in 2026, we can expect a gradual approach to tariffs toward an economically justified level, given the need to restore the energy infrastructure.
As of the end of 2025, a fixed price of 4.32 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour is in effect for the population. For households using electric heating, a preferential tariff of 2.64 hryvnias per 2,000 kilowatt-hours per month is provided; for exceeding this limit, a tariff of 4.32 hryvnias per 2,000 kilowatt-hours applies.
We remind you that the electricity fee will increase in two stages, and it will not be possible to avoid this increase in the near future. More details about when and by how much the tariffs will increase can be found in other sources.
