Stitch became Disney’s most financially successful character in 2025
Blue alien Stitch from the Lilo & Stitch franchise has become Disney’s key financial success in 2025, according to a report by THR. The remake of Lilo & Stitch grossed $1.04 billion worldwide, becoming one of the year’s highest-grossing films. Sales of merchandise featuring Stitch exceeded $4 billion in fiscal 2025 alone, a significant achievement for the company.
The film also had the second-best start in Disney+ history: in five days, it was viewed 14.3 million times, and the total viewing time of content related to the franchise exceeded 640 million hours. THR notes that Stitch’s success is a vivid example of effective brand management laid down by Walt Disney. The simultaneous launch of the film, products, and park-themed activities, along with the promotion of digital content, created strong synergy.
Disney Chief Brand Officer Asad Ayaz highlighted the significance of this success, noting that Stitch has become a “cultural phenomenon.” His popularity spans generations, with millennials who watched the original 2002 cartoon now introducing him to their children.
In 2025, Stitch temporarily became the face of Disney, replacing Mickey Mouse, and starred in the Disney Holiday Magic charity tour, visiting more than 20 cities, and also appeared on stage in the hit Broadway musical Aladdin.
