UAH 50,000 per child from January 1: The Government approved new assistance for mothers

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted new rules for assisting at childbirth, which will come into force at the beginning of 2026. The changes apply to both newborns and children who will not yet be one year old at the time the law comes into force.

On January 1, 2026, an updated model of state support for families with children will be introduced in Ukraine. The main changes are an increase in the one-time assistance at the birth of a child to 50 thousand hryvnias, as well as the introduction of new monthly payments and programs for parents.

The one-time assistance at the birth of a child will increase from 10.3 thousand hryvnias to 50 thousand hryvnias. The payment will be made immediately in full and will not depend on the child’s serial number in the family. In addition, the mechanism of partial monthly payments, which was in force before, is being canceled.

A new monthly allowance of 7,000 hryvnias per child up to the age of one year is now being introduced. Any family member who actually cares for the child will be able to receive these funds – mother, father, grandmother, or grandfather. For children with disabilities, the monthly payment will be 10,500 hryvnias.

Important information for parents of children under one year old

If the child is not yet one year old on January 1, 2026, the family:

will continue to receive an allowance of 860 hryvnias;

will additionally be able to receive a monthly payment of 7,000 hryvnias until the child reaches one year of age.

Support for expectant mothers without official insurance experience

For pregnant women without official insurance coverage, a monthly allowance of 7,000 hryvnias is provided and paid throughout the pregnancy.

Update to the “Baby Package” program

The “Baby Package” program will remain in force, but with some changes: parents can order a package from the 36th week of pregnancy, not only after the child’s birth. They will also be able to choose between receiving a “Baby Box” or cash compensation.

The “e-Nursery” program to support parents after the first year of their child’s life

Parents who plan to return to work after their child turns one year old will be able to receive up to 8,000 hryvnias per month in compensation for kindergarten, sections, or care services. In addition, the state will pay a single social contribution for one of the parents who will stay at home with the child to maintain insurance coverage. For children with disabilities, the amount of assistance can be up to 12,000 hryvnias per month.

New payment for first-graders

From 2026, the state will introduce a one-time payment of 5,000 hryvnias for each first-grade student. These funds can be used for school uniforms and necessary stationery, regardless of the family’s income level.

Pensioners living abroad or in temporarily occupied territories must be identified by December 31, 2025, so as not to jeopardize their 2026 benefits.
